The Maine Legislature’s Joint Committee on Labor, Commerce, Research and Economic Development at Work Session on January 30, 2014 took action on an amended version of The Small Business Investment Protection Act, filed earlier in this session.  The first of several motions entertained by the committee was that the amended bill “ought not to pass” and that motion was defeated by a 2 -11 vote.  A motion to pass the bill as amended down to 5 basic provisions: freedom of association, renewal rights, succession rights, termination protections, and good faith and reasonableness was then defeated as well.  A final motion to approve sending the amended bill to a  study committee was then passed by the committee which will be debated on the floor of the Maine House of Representatives during this session.
